Stresa, Borromean Islands and Mottarone
The Borromee Islands are a group of three small islands and two islets in the Italian part of Lago Maggiore, located in the western arm of the lake, between Verbania to the north and Stresa to the south. Together totalling just 50 acres (20 hectares) in area, they are a major local tourist attraction for their picturesque setting.
Their name derives from the Borromeo family, which started acquiring them in the early 16th century (Isola Madre) and still owns the majority of them (Isola Madre, Bella, San Giovanni) today.Stresa, Borromee Islands and Mottarone.
1° day | Stresa:
Meet Italy Creative Staff at the airport. Transfer by deluxe coach in super deluxe hotel in Stresa. Private Welcome Cocktail after the check-in followed by the dinner. Overnight.
2° day | Borromean Islands:
Continental breakfast and departure by private taxi boat from Stresa to visit the Borromean Islands, Isola Bella, Isola Dei Pescatori and Isola Madre, Lunch in a typical Restaurant in the “Isola of Pescatori”, where we can taste some of the local products of this area. In the late afteroon we can dedicate a time to shopping in Stresa accompanied by a Personal shopper. Private special dinner in a disco-pub. Overnight.
3° day | Stresa & Mottarone:
Continental breakfast. All the day is dedicated to the visit of fantastic Mottarone mountain, one of the most beautiful natural balconies in the whole Piedmont and Lombardy. Leaving from Stresa – Carciano on the Piedmont side of Lake Maggiore by the cableway. Visit the Botanical garden and then taking you to the summit of the Mottarone mountain, situated between Lake Maggiore and Lake d’Orta. You can admire the summit of Monte Rosa and the seven lakes (Lake Maggiore, Lake d’Orta, Lake Mergozzo, Lake Varese, Lake Comabbio, Lake Monate, Lake Biandronno). Lunch in a typical restaurant and return in the hotel.Dinner in romantic restaurant in Stresa. Overnight.
4° day | Stresa & Milan
Continental breakfast and transfer by deluxe coach or private limousine to Milan. City tour of Milan with stops in the most important monuments of the city. Lunch in one of the most nicest restaurants nearthe Duomo Cathedral. In the afternoon time for shopping in the Quadrilatero della Moda with a Personal Shopper. Overnight in Milan.
5° day | Milan
Continental breakfast and transfer by deluxe coach or private limousine to the airport.
The gastronomy of Lake Maggiore
flavoursome and simplicity
Particularly flavoursome, the gastronomy of Lake Maggiore brings together lakeside and mountain dishes, recipes from Lombardy and Piedmont. Traditional lake-side cuisine includes fish-based dishes, from perch to pike and trout, served in simple and delicate recipes.
Further inland the food reveals the influence of Piedmont: spiced meats, roasts, and game are the main items on the menu, as well as of course the typical “bagna cauda”, a sauce made of oil and garlic served with seasonal vegetables to dip into it.
From the mountains that frame Lake Verbano, we come to the traditional dishes of the mountain valleys; strong flavours, featuring the classic polenta garnished according to the cook’s fancy, an essential accompaniment for several courses and simple and tasty desserts, perhaps served with the berries that grow abundantly in the valley. And finally, the cheeses, a real delight: the famous Gorgonzola, Toma cheese and the rare Bettelmatt.
